# FAQ

> Answers to the most common questions about PackKit.

## Account & Data

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Is my data backed up?">
    Yes. PackKit stores your inventory, trips, and settings in a secure cloud database. Your data is tied to your account, not your device, so it's safe even if you lose or replace your phone.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I use PackKit on multiple devices?">
    Yes. Sign in with the same account on any device and your inventory, trips, and settings will be available. Changes sync automatically.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What happens if I delete the app?">
    Your data stays in the cloud. Reinstall PackKit, sign in, and everything will be right where you left it.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I change my email address?">
    Not from within the app currently. Email **[support@packkit.me](mailto:support@packkit.me)** and we'll help you update it.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How do I delete my account?">
    Email **[support@packkit.me](mailto:support@packkit.me)** with your request. We'll permanently delete your account and all associated data.
  </Accordion>

## Inventory

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="What happens if I delete an item that's in a trip?">
    Deleting an item from your inventory also removes it from any trips it was added to. If you just want to remove an item from a specific trip without deleting it from your inventory, open that trip and remove it there instead.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What is the Liquid flag for?">
    The Liquid flag marks items subject to TSA liquid rules or shipping restrictions: shampoo, contact solution, sunscreen, and similar items. It shows as a visual indicator in your packing list so you remember to handle those items separately, such as in your quart-size TSA bag. It doesn't affect packing logic or counts.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What's the 'Packing Container' category?">
    Items in the **Packing Container** category can act as containers in your packing list: suitcases, backpacks, packing cubes, tote bags, and so on. Add them to a trip and you can assign other items inside them, mirroring how you'd physically pack.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How many items can I add to my inventory?">
    There's no enforced limit. Add as many as you need.
  </Accordion>

## Trips

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="What's the difference between a trip and a template?">
    A **trip** is a specific packing list for a specific journey, with a destination, dates, and a status that moves from Planning through to Archived. A **template** is a reusable snapshot of a packing list with no dates attached. Use templates to quickly start a new trip without rebuilding your list from scratch.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Why can only one trip be Active at a time?">
    The **Pack** tab shows your active trip's checklist. Allowing multiple active trips simultaneously would create ambiguity about which one you're packing. If you need to switch, set a different trip to Active. The previous one moves back to Planning automatically.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I have items in a trip that aren't in my inventory?">
    No. All trip items come from your inventory. This keeps everything consistent. If you update an item's name or icon in your inventory, it's reflected everywhere.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I reuse the same container across multiple trips?">
    Yes. Your containers (suitcase, backpack, etc.) live in your inventory like any other item. Add the same container to as many trips as you like.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What happens to a template if I delete an item from my inventory?">
    The item is removed from the template. Future trips created from that template won't include it.
  </Accordion>

## Packing

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Can I use PackKit offline?">
    PackKit requires an internet connection to load and sync your data. Offline support is not available in the current version.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I share my packing list with someone else?">
    You can share your list in two ways with a **Pro subscription**, but you can't share a trip directly into someone else's PackKit account.

    * **Share link:** Open the **⋯** menu on any trip card and tap **Share Trip**. PackKit generates a read-only link anyone can open in a browser — no account or app required. See [Sharing a Trip](/trips-and-templates#sharing-a-trip).
    * **PDF export:** Open the **⋯** menu and tap **Export Packing List** to generate a PDF you can print or send. See [Exporting a Trip](/trips-and-templates#exporting-a-trip).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Why isn't confetti showing when I check off the last item?">
    Make sure all items are checked, including those in nested containers. The progress bar must reach 100% to trigger the confetti celebration. Items in the **Unassigned** section count too.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The drag-and-drop reordering isn't working. What's wrong?">
    Drag-and-drop is only available in **Custom** sort mode. If you're in A→Z or Z→A mode, switch back to Custom using the sort button in the top-right of the Pack view.

## Notifications

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Why didn't I get a packing reminder?">
    Check two things: make sure you set a **Due Date** on the trip, and make sure PackKit has permission to send notifications in your iPhone's Settings app. Go to **Settings > Notifications > PackKit** and confirm notifications are enabled.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How do I turn off a packing reminder?">
    Edit the trip and clear the **Due Date** field, then save. The scheduled notification will be cancelled.
  </Accordion>

## Getting Started

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="How do I get rid of the sample data?">
    The sample trip and inventory items are there to help you explore the app. To remove them:

    * **Sample trip:** Open the Trips tab, tap **⋯** on the sample trip, and select **Delete**.
    * **Sample inventory items:** Open the Inventory tab, swipe left on each item, and tap **Delete**.

    Or just leave them. They won't affect your real packing lists.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="I forgot my password. How do I reset it?">
    On the sign-in screen, tap **Forgot password**, enter your email, and follow the steps. See [Changing Your Password](/settings#changing-your-password) for the full flow.
  </Accordion>
